Steve Brannon, this week’s Reader of the Week, has drawn my attention to something really exciting, and more than a bit special, which he himself discovered over at Rick Seifert’s Red Electric blog.
The Orwell Prize (a prize set up in George Orwell’s name in order to annually award political writing), has taken the remarkable step of publishing online, a collection of personal diaries scribed by Orwell between 1938-1942. Rather than posting the diaries en masse though, a single entry will be posted each day, in blog format, corresponding to the day on which they were created exactly 70 years ago.
How amazing is that? For the next fours years we are getting the privilege of a personal daily insight into one of the 20th century’s most influential writers. I’ve already subscribed to the RSS feed, and I suggest you do this same.
Many thanks to the Orwell Prize for offering us the rare privilege, and thanks also to Rick (and Steve of course) for the initial heads up!
