Well the Read-a-Thon has been going now for just over seven hours and I’ve only just finished my first title. I’m a little disappointed because my afternoon has been full of distraction and interruption, but it’s still an achievement I guess. To claw back a bit of time I’m going on to read the shortest in my selection (but hopefully not the most dense) Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness.
Thanks to the fellow readers and cheerleaders who have dropped by so far to offer words of support. I really don’t know how you manage to fit it all in.

Hey come on.. I am not reading except for blogs.. and i still don’t understand how the time flies
You r done with your book… AWESOME! congrats!! I would have been still not done with it .. i m sure

Veens – you are a motivational super-herol!!!
) Thanks for the kind words
You’re doing well. How many times do you get to read more than one book on the same day? If you haven’t read Heart of Darkness before, you’re in for a treat. I’ll be interested to know what you think of the books you read today, but don’t worry about that until after the read-a-thon. We’ll all have things to write about then. It’s about having fun and telling the world we’re too busy to bother with the mundane today , we’ve got serious reading to do. Enjoy yourself.
It’s a pain how we can’t convince the world to just leave us alone so we can read, huh? I wouldn’t fret too much about only finishing one book so far, since judging by the picture you’re picking books that require a fair bit of readerly thought, effort, and time.
Hey, you’re doing great! One book is a lot more than I would do by now! Just have fun with it and dont sweat the rest!
Sometimes life just gets in the way, doesn’t it? Keep up the great work!!!
I love Heart of Darkness, but it is not a light read at all. I’m curious what you think of it, and hope that you’re having a good day so far.
Good luck for the rest of the Read-a-Thon and don’t end up like this… http://www.ahajokes.com/crt579.html

I haven’t managed to pick up a single book yet today. Just been visiting all the readers!
Keep up the good work.

Thanks to everyone who sent me best wishes comments on this post. Sorry for not responding at the time, what with the reading and all that

@Sandra – All of the books I selected for the Read-a-Thon were unread ones – well I wouldn’t want to cheat would I
) As ever I always post my ‘afterthoughts’ on the books I read so keep a lookout in a couple of days. Right now I’d say that I probably didn’t do Heart of Darkness much justics, having read it so quickly, but even then I found it an incredibly powerful book.
@Fyrefly – Belated thanks for your reassuring words and you’re right – I did go a little too much down the ‘readerly thought’ route in my choices. So much so that I didn’t even go near the Nabokov novel which was one I really wanted to check off for the challenge.
@sunny – Belated thanks for your kind words too. I ended up scoring off 3 titles so it got better as time went on
).
@Maree – Do you not just think we readers are just an anti-social bunch when we’ve have reading to do?
) Belated thanks for the kind words of encouragement.
@Kim – How right you were about Heart of Darkness not being a light read
). The second half (which I started at 05:00am) was hard work. I’ll be posting ‘afterthoughts’ in the next day or two but I can tell you now, in retrospect, I loved it. Nice cartoon BTW
)
@Marg – Thank you so much for your much appreciated support. Sorry I couldn’t thank you at the time!
