Costa Book Awards 2008 - shortlist announced

Nov 19th, 2008 | By Rob | Category: Book News

With the embers of this year’s Man Booker event just beginning to settle down, attention turns to the UK’s biggest literary event - the Costa Book Awards, and the announcement this evening of the shortlists for 2008.

In the category of Costa Novel Award, Sebastian Barry, shortlister in this year’s Man Booker, has another shot at the winner’s podium with his novel The Secret Scripture. Joining him in the running are Chris Cleave with The Other Hand, Louis de Bernieres with his novel A Partisan’s Daughter and Patrick McGrath with Trauma.

A novel which I’ve heard lots of good stuff about lately - Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith, makes the shortlist for First Novel Award, along with The Behaviour of Moths by Poppy Adams, The Outcast by Sadie Jones and Inside the Whale by Jennie Rooney.

The shortlists for the other categories have also been announced of course i.e. Costa Children’s Award, Costa Children’s Biography Award and the Costa Poetry Award, so get yourself along to the official website to check them out (together with synapses for all of the book in the shortlists)

Exciting times ahead and with the winners being announced on 6th January 2009, we’ve only got a short time to ‘read off’ as many as possible :o)
