Forethoughts: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Nov 20th, 2008 | By Rob | Category: Forethoughts

It may not be my usual kind of read but I’ve been hearing so much good stuff about The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman lately (especially from Bart over at Bart’s Bookshelf :o)) that I’ve bitten the bullet and bought a copy (I got a really good price for it too, hence the pictured children’s version :o)).

To be honest with you I know little about this book or the author in general really, other than a lot of people, young and old alike, seeming to like what Gaiman writes and how he writes it. The story certainly sounds intriguing; a baby, who becomes known as Bod (a contraction of ‘nobody’ - very clever) is adopted and raised by ghosts in a graveyard after his parents and sibling are brutally murdered by the sinister man Jack. Sounds good, although I seriously do worry about my attraction to anything themed around brutal murder :o).

Anyway this is quite a short book so despite my reading challenges and review commitments I’m launching straight into reading it. It’s going to make a refreshing change not having to read too deeply for a spell :o). I’ll let you know my afterthoughts in a day or two.

This in effect let’s you watch a reading of the entire book by Neil himself.
