Nevermore 2009: Poe’s bicentennial celebration event announced

Nov 3rd, 2008 | By Rob | Category: Writers and Writing

You probably know that I’ve kicked off my own little celebration, but a few days ago in Baltimore, a press conference gave notice of the launch in January, of the official year-long Edgar Allan Poe bicentennial celebration event - Nevermore 2009.

Celebrating 200-years since Poe’s birth, the event also has an official Nevermore 2009 website dedicated to it. The details of all scheduled events in Nevermore 2009 can be found on this website (I’m guessing it will be regularly updated), together with loads of background information on the man himself. The event organisers have also kindly recorded and uploaded the press conference in its entirety, so you can watch it for yourself - it’s worthwhile viewing too, if only to see an appearance from Mr. Poe himself, at the end :o)

So there we have it - the official celebrations have kicked off (or have been announced at least) and I’m hugely excited about it. I’m so glad I’ve picked the here and now to dive so fully into the stories of Poe. I can foresee so much excitement being generated in the build-up between now and January 19th, that putting myself right in the midst of it, by soaking up Poe, must be the best place to be (well aside from Baltimore itself of course :o)). I predict thrilling times ahead! :o)
