New Challenge Launch: iPoe Story Reading Challenge

Nov 1st, 2008 | By Rob | Category: Reading Challenges, iPoe reading challenge

Well I’ve hinted about it for long enough now, and as one challenge I’m engaged in ends it’s the perfect time to announce (especially on Halloween), the launch of yet another reading challenge of my own - the iPoe Story Reading Challenge (I know - it’s kind of spoofy and cheesy but I couldn’t resist :o).

I’m intensely excited about this challenge. I only started reading Poe a couple of weeks ago, and even though I’ve only read two stories so far, he’s quickly turned into one of my most revered authors. I’m enthralled by the greatness of his writing. As a consequence I really crave the need to read all of his stories, and catch up on a literary great that I’ve previously ignored….shame on me!

This challenge also coincides with the upcoming 200th anniversary of Edgar Allan’s birth (19th January 2009), so it’s a timely launch in that respect too. At first I had planned on completing this challenge on Edgar’s birthday, but realistically I can’t see me making it in time. So rather than busting a gut I’m keeping things simple, and placing an open-ended completion date on this challenge.

As usual I’ve set up a challenge hub page where you can follow my progress, and here, although it’s kind of barren right now, are details of all of the stories that are in the challenge, together with details on how you can join the challenge yourself - I’d love it if you did!

So with my current reading challenges already running, my review commitments to follow through on, my entry into NaNoWriMo 08 to deal with, and this new new Poe challenge, it looks like November is going to be one busy literary month for me, and you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way! Bring on the good times :o)

  1. What a great challenge! I’ll be playing along.

  2. Memory - how ironic that the last story in your challenge is by the author that my new challenge features :o) I was dying to tell you but didn’t want to reveal anything until I was ready. So you seriously signing up for this? Be great to have you on board!

  3. Absolutely. I’ve already read many of Poe’s short stories, but it’s been years since I went back over him. It should be interesting to see how my opinions differ now, almost ten years on.

  4. I’ll add you to the list then. Are you going to be posting under a specific category? It would be better directly linking to that.

  5. I want to join :) This looks like great fun!

  6. Becky - I’m so happy you’re jumping on-board. Will you be posting updates on your progress? It would be better to link you on the hub page to a specific category so people don’t have to search
