BookShelf of the Week: It’s an enigma?!?

I know absolutely nothing about the origins of the subject for this week’s Bookshelf of the Week other than it was taken (I think?) in the capital of Estonia, Tallinn by Icelandic photographer siggimus. However the bizarre location for this bookshelf i.e. on the outer wall of a tower block, meant I couldn’t possibly miss out on including it as this week’s rather enigmatic Bookshelf of the Week.

If anyone can shed any more light on the raison d’être for this bookshelf, then I’d to hear from you.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn’t bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books).

  1. yes, it is in tallinn, estonia, well, was there in the summer of ’05. this was not too far from the centre

as for it’s raison d’être, i can’t help much. wondered about it a bit & the only possibility i came up with was that it was a rotating wall. maybe there’s a tv on the other side..?

  2. btw … i have another pic. it’s a bit blurry so i didn’t post it, but if you zoom in on that one you notice they are inside out – the spines face the house

Thank you for the added info siggimus, it’s much appreciated! As for the theory on the rotating wall – Wow you’ve just deepened the mystery! Anyway thanks for capturing such a good photo and hopefully someone will shed some light on the mystery bookcase in the near future.

  4. I’m dying to know the explanation for this. Very interesting.

Sadly I’m not sure we’ll ever find out Sandra, but in many ways that’s the draw of the piece.
