See the light with Studiomeiboom’s The Enlightenment lamp

So Christmas is only a couple of short weeks away and our thoughts are turning once more to the favourite bibliophile in our life, and what we can buy to delight them on Christmas morning. You could go the tried and tested route and hand over a fistful of book tokens, which is sure to please, or this year you could do something a little less predictable and go for something completely unique like the Enlightenment lamp from Dutch designers Studiomeiboom

Constructed out of white Plexiglass and supplied with a 9 watt energy-saving lamp, book-fashioned Enlightenment is definitely a gift for the book-lover in your life, and although I’m not sure of the book reading practicalities of the lamp (a more directional reading light such as the Alex lights from the Guardian are much more practical reading solution), it’s a gift that certainly has a novelty factor – I can see these looking quite nice in a well-appointed personal library.

The cost of the Enlightenment lamp is a fairly reasonable €79.00 (£68, $100) + shipping (which of course varies from where you are in in the world), and out of the sale of each lamp Studiomeiboom are also donating 10% to projects run by the Edukans Foundation.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
