For this week’s Bookshelf of the Week I’m posting this shot taken by Eccentric Scholar, mainly so I can provoke a debate on how common it is for people to actually store their libraries like this in order of colour, rather than say alphabetically or in genre groupings? The fact that this image is actually linked to a Flickr group called Rainbow of Books, would suggest it is a common-placed practice, but I just can’t envisage any hardcore bibliophile storing their libraries like this. It must be hugely impractical! Am I just being naive here folks? What are your thoughts?
Anyway, regardless of its practicalities this is still a beautiful bookshelf shot (it’s actually better in large) and it’s one that oozes tons of aesthetic appeal. Thanks for capturing it Eccentric Scholar!

I just arranged my TBR bookcase by colour. None of the genre categorisations really worked, and I didn’t want to do it alphabetically.

Eva I’m beginning to think that you’re the archetypal ‘book rebel’

Some time in the future though, I’d love to know how this works out for you though.

It’s delightful to be featured here!
Here’s what poet Gary Barwin, the Serif of Nottingblog, said of my colour-coded bookshelf: “What you’ve done privileges the unexpected connections between books, between subjects. Despite your blog being ‘Abecedarian,’ your book organization realizes that knowledge can be organized or accessed via a totally different set of assumptions.”
says:
Craig, and I’m delighted you’ve dropped by, especially when you add such a profound quote to the mix from the Serif of Nottingblog (such an awesome name
)
Seeing all of Craig’s books in one visual system makes me think of them as forming a living organism, changing & growing, with a personality interacting with its human keeper. The ‘collection’ is a kind of bookish pet, an vertebrate fido. I’ve often seen him taking it walking on his blog.

Wow. I would never think to arrange my bookshelf by color. However I may think of it. This is so restful looking. Such a decorator touch!
