‘Fifty-Two Stories’ serves up its latest [beeping] offering

You may remember I pointed you to Harper Perennial’s new short story portal, Fifty-Two Stories last week? You may also remember that its raison d’être is to highlight one short story each week through 2009? Well this week’s new offering has been put up by Cal Morgan, and it’s an interesting early short from accomplished New Orlean’s author Tom Piazza.

I’ve yet to read the story myself (scheduled for later today), but just one glance tells me that Burn Me Up should win the prize for the most expletives in an opening sentence :o ). Don’t let that put you off though, Cal says this story is a ‘razorlike portrait of an uneasy folk hero in backstage exile’ so bearing that in mind it’s no wonder that the story has such a ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ opening.

Anyway, enjoy the story folks and thanks to Cal and Tom for making it available.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)

Thanks for pointing this site out to us, Rob! I spent the weekend reading the previous stories. The best thing (well, apart from the stories that is!) is that there’s a feed, so there’s no reason for me not to keep up with the site. I tend to forget to check sites without feeds.
