Bookshelf of the Week: The ‘bookish staircase’ of Lynn Jacobs

If you’re a regular reader of Bookshelf of the Week then you’ll know that I often feature bookshelves that stand out for their practicality and innovation. Well this week’s featured ‘bookshelf’ definitely ticks both of those boxes, and although it doesn’t stand out as being a bookshelf in the traditional sense of the word (when do my selections ever :o )), it’s one due to its ingenious simplicity, that I couldn’t resist featuring.

The brainchild of this ad hoc bookshelf is Lynn Jacobs (who kindly gave me permission to feature her image), and I love it. What I like most is the fact that Lynn is making use of dead space, which is always a comfort to see, but it’s also a perfect space for books too. The staircase spindles make ideal ‘natural’ bookends, and the books are there close at hand and on display for all to see. I can tell just by looking at this photo alone, that Lynn is a true book-lover at heart, and I bet I’m not wrong :o ).

Stairs seem to be a popular ad hoc storage solution for books. You may remember not long ago I featured the Joe Ley Antique Store in Louiseville, where they make use of a staircase to display their books. However, Lynn’s solution is infinitely more practical in that she can still make full use of her stairs – thank goodness :o ).

Thanks for allowing RobAroundBooks to feature your image Lynn. I can visualise bibliophiles the world over, ‘booking up’ their staircases after seeing this!

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)

This is indeed a very interesting decision, I also have a lot of books at home and constantly has a problem with lack of space. I think this decision will help to find the optimal solution.
