Sweet Friday!

I should really apologise for the complete absence of any posts yesterday but I had a good ‘bookish’ reason. As promised in my ‘Book Bites’ post on Thursday, I was going to unashamedly put aside all my commitments so that I could celebrate John Steinbeck’s birthday in the best way I knew how – by reading one of his novels that I haven’t had the pleasure of reading so far – Sweet Thursday.

The picture above shows almost exactly how Steinbeck’s birthday went for me – coffee, cakes and Sweet Thursday, all while ensconced on the patio, in what was a rare glorious day for this time of the year in Scotland (Steinbeck was definitely smiling from the heavens :o )).

I say the picture almost shows how the day went but missing is the fact that I also read Steinbeck’s short story Chrysanthemums (online HERE) on my Sony Reader before ‘lights out’ (‘afterthoughts’ HERE).

Oh and finally, on such a special day, how could I miss out the mad canine namesake I have the pleasure of owning? Answer: I didn’t! Steinbeck the Labrador enjoyed a special rawhide bone and one of those pink cakes you see in the picture (he didn’t so much eat the cake as inhale it! :o )).

A great day all around – and now back to work!

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
