Short story No. 9 served up at Fifty-Two Stories – Over at the Harper Perennial ‘powered’ short story website, Cal’s posted the new FREE offering for this week – What Saffi Knew by Carol Windley. I had a quick skim of the first paragraph and it’s definitely one I’m looking forward to reading (even though I’ve yet to catch up on last week’s story…[coughs!]).
On a side note Fifty-Two Stories have also kindly added me to their ‘friends’ links on the home page – awww………ain’t that sweet!

Bookbarn’s Bristolian free-for-all – Large UK second-hand book supplier, Bookbarn recently abandoned a warehouse full of books, leaving the manager of the industrial estate where the warehouse is sited with the dilemma of what do with them. His solution? Put the word out to the general public to come and grab them – and good grief didn’t they just!
My heart sank at first with the thought of all of the greedy profiteers who would have flocked to the site solely at the prospect of making money (not even book lovers…grrr!), but my spirits lifted again when I started reading about some of the true book lovers who were scaling the forlorn pulp mountains. My bookish hero? Student Travis Speedie (a great hero name too
)), who demonstrated his love for books so eloquently with the words ‘..it’s like finding treasure when you discover something you want’. Ahhh spoken like a true bibliophile
) Thanks to Elizabeth over at the Picador blog for the original ‘heads up’.
World Book Day (UK) coming this week – Just a reminder to all readers in the UK that World Book Day is this Thursday (5th). It’s also the day when the associated Spread the Word 2009 winner (the shortlist of which I’ve featured previously) is announced at an evening event.
