Penguin Podcasts make a welcome return – Penguin UK sent out a tweet today to let their followers know that their Penguin Podcasts have returned, and with a shiny new host too, in the shape of Hannah Flyn. So head on over to the dedicated Penguin Podcast website and download Hannah’s inaugural auditory offering. Got luck with the job Hannah!
Oh and if bookish podcasts are your ‘thang’, then you may also like to check out the blogging efforts of good friends Micheal and Ann who run the Books on the Nightstand blog. They produce a regular bookish podcast too, and as industry insiders (they both work for Random House) you can be sure it’s worth listening to, and it really is as well.
One final thing! Does anyone else find it ironic that Penguin’s can tweet?
) Ok I’ll shut up!
Dave Boling on being an author – The author of the recently released novel Guernica (which everyone seems to be talking about right now, except me) offers an insight on the Picador blog into life as a newly-famed writer (Guernica is David’s first novel if you didn’t know and p.s. here’s a link to his blog). It’s an endearing piece in which David shows a lot of humility for his position, and a ton of endearment towards his ‘fans’ – two important qualities which are sadly lacking in a lot of today’s authors. May fame never change you David!
Happy Birthday Khaled Hosseini! – Today marks the 44th birthday of acclaimed novelist Khaled Hosseini, the writer responsible for The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
I was doing a bit of research on Hosseini and did you know the book that’s had the biggest influence on his life/career as a writer is none other than Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath? In an interview with the New York Times in 2004 (transcript HERE), he said of Grapes of Wrath “[it] was the first book I read in English where I had an “Aha!” moment”. Now don’t you just love someone who has been inspired by the great John S. as much as this, and gone on to make a roaring success as an author? Truly heartwarming, at least for me
). Anyway have a great day Mr. Hosseini!
