Nicki - I had started reading "Beagle" on my Sony Reader until this hard copy of the book came along. So rightly I should have whizzed through it by now. But alas it dropped down the 'pecking order'. I'm sure we'll both get through it though, sometime during the year!

Also don't feel too bad about the 'free book offer'. It's not something that happens too often in the UK either
Anyway whatcha' reading this for? You could have ticked off a Darwinian page or two by now *grins*
Speak soon

That's very cool that The Guardian is giving away free books - especially Darwin! I've never heard of anything like that here.

Also, I'm a little glad that you just got your copies - makes me feel better about the fact that I've only read the introduction and first chapter and then stalled for two and a half weeks. ;)

Kristen - make sure you do root me on because I'm likely to procrastinate over it.

Good luck with your Darwinian reading project too. As much as the thought of reading Origin of the Species pains me, it sounds like you have a beautiful copy of it there.
Warmest

I got my big Illustrated Origin of the Species and I swear I am going to read it this year. It has excerpts from his Beagle journals along with sketches and modern photos to illustrate his ideas ...

I'll root you on to read Beagle!
