My local newspaper got right behind World Book Day….not!

So today was World Book Day in the UK (as I’ve stated a few times already), and getting right into the spirit of things my local weekly newspaper ran a kind of ‘whattcha reading?’ viewpoints feature on some members of the local public. I was quite stunned by a couple of the responses (there were only about six printed in total). One guy stated “I’m not really into books. I read the [featured paper]’s job section and am looking for an apprenticeship at the moment”. Another commented, “I read the sport in the newspapers and always turn to the back page of the [featured paper] first before I read anything else.

Emmm……anyone getting the impression that either 1. My local newspaper is using World Book Day as a kind self-evangalising advertisement or 2. The reporter(s) responsible for this assignment couldn’t really be that bothered looking for suitable participants (even though all he/she had to do was stand outside of the door of the local branch of Waterstones for an hour).

Lord give me strength! :)

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)

Heheh, excellent, gotta love those local papers! Frank Skinner once said that you can replace the word ‘local’ with the word ‘crap’ in any sentence and it will still make sense. So: “A local paper carried out a survey of readers…” Yep, it works!

John – Thanks for putting a smile on my face. I like Frank. He’s very observational!
