Guardian’s audio interview with Alain Mabanckou – I’ve already been evangalising the next novel in my reading pile – Broken Glass, for its glorious cover, and now thanks to The Guardian we can all sit back and enjoy an interview with its Congolese author, Alain Mabanckou. At just over 17 minutes long this interview with Mabanckou is well worth the listening to, not least because of the insane amount of passion Mabanckou exudes during his interview. A true inspiration!
How Books Got Their Titles – If you’re one of these deep-thinkers who wonders how certain books got their titles then Gary Dexter may well have the blog for you. As a sort of continuation to his published book Why Not Catch-21?: The Stories Behind the Titles [ISBN: 0711229252] (a book in which Gary explores the origins of the titles of 50 well-known books), Gary provides daily, I’ll repeat that – DAILY, considerations on his blog, on the origins of other book titles. Original, entertaining and well worth adding to your feeds. ::via MobyLives
Vintage UK calling all budding junior cover artists – As they did last year with their release of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, the good people at Vintage Classics UK are again calling on junior artists to help them design the new cover for the latest release of their title Peter Pan. In a competition that’s open to 7 to 12 year olds (resident in the UK or the Republic of Ireland only), the prize for the winner is a very respectable £100 worth of Random House Children’s Books, with second and third bagging £50 and £30 worth of books respectively. Nice prizes and nice timing too, what with the Easter school holidays upon us (although the closing date isn’t until July 26th).
