Daily Bookshot: Ma Beijing Birdie

Ma Beijing Birdie, originally uploaded by Robert Burdock.

Sadly this is a library copy because budgets are limited and all that, but this is a shot of the gorgeous Chatto & Windus edition of Ma Jian’s Beijing Coma [ISBN: 0701178078]

I’ve already read Jian’s non-fiction work ‘Red Dust’ which charts his three year exploration of China and it’s an amazing book, so before I even looked at the synopsis for Beijing Coma, I knew it would have held a lot of promise. And does it ever? Take a look at the synopsis for yourself and tell me you don’t want to read it.

In all honesty with my TBR pile as it is I’m probably not going to get to this novel any time soon, but I live in hope. Meantime I’ll just wallow in the gloriousness of its minimalist cover.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
