Daily Bookshot: Shiny Siege

Shiny Siege, originally uploaded by Robert Burdock.

One of the reads I’ve got coming up during this month of May is one I’m hugely excited about – Canongate’s recently released paperback edition of Ismail Kadare’s The Siege [ISBN: 978-1-84767-122-6]. Not only have I heard lots of good things about this novel, I’ve a bit of a serious interest in Islamic siege warfare. It’s an interest that stems from studying an earlier period than the fifteenth-century that this novel was set in, namely the twelfth and thirteenth centuries when the Crusader states existed in the Near East.

Anyway more on The Siege later in the month, and look out for a giveaway competition at that time as well.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
