Fifty-Two Stories dishes up a serving of legless goat – Sadly there’s no reason for me to get excited by this week’s free short story offering at Fifty-Two Stories because the freebie – Immortal by Alex Burrett is one I already have. It comes from Burrett’s delightful collection ‘My Goat Ate Its Own Legs’ and I wholeheartedly recommend both the story and the collection. The UK edition of ‘My Goat Ate Its Own Legs’ has been out in the UK for a while now (published by Beautiful Books), but Harper Perennial doesn’t release it in the US until next week. You have entertaining times ahead my good American cousins.

Oh I did get excited about one thing though. Scroll down to the bottom of the Immortal story page and there’s an embedded video in tribute to the opening story that the collection takes its name from. I think it’s actually better reading the story first, before watching the video, but if patience isn’t your virtue then click away and prepared to be entertained. Hehe!

Multimedia Penguins turn out the Publisher’s Desk – If you only do one thing tonight then make it be a visit to this new website from Penguin Group US, which even as a new launch shows incredible promise.

Called ‘From the Publisher’s Desk’ this new website seems focused on harnessing the power of multimedia to deliver a bookish experience like no other. Those are my words not Penguin’s but that is what the feel and content of the site is telling me. Polished video productions, audio podcasts, live author chats and much more, all presented on a classically retro, yet minimal website. Delicious!

Anyway Penguin can explain it to you all much better than I can, especially when they’ve employed a swish ‘orientation video’ to do the job. So go check it out, and when you do remember to pick your jaw off the floor :o ). Good job Penguin, and if you guys can make this work? Wow, it could revolutionize the bookish webscape.

‘Book Bites’bringing you tasty bite-size morsels of bookish news and delight, from around the web.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
