Daily Bookshot: Oh, Go On Then!

Oh, Go On Then!, originally uploaded by Robert Burdock.

I’m sure you already know all about the World Literature Forum which is run by former Rob’s Reader of the Week Stewart McAbney, but if you haven’t, and you’re into world literature, then this is one place you really need to be.

I’m a member of the forum, but you wouldn’t think it. I pop up when there’s live a Q&A session with an author (Niccolo Ammaniti and Paolo Giordano), but then I scurry back under my book pile. Shocking behaviour I know, and I really need to make amends for my lurking ways.

Thankfully the perfect opportunity arose recently when Stewart put together the plans for a World Literature Forum book group. The book group is now a reality, and its opening read is the one you see before you – If On a Winter’s Night a Traveller by Italo Calvino.

At first I wasn’t going to take part in this inaugural book group discussion. It begins on August 1st, and I’m so busy right now it hurts (well not quite but I’ll keep it in for sensationalism :) ). However, aside from the fact that it’s an awesome novel that I’ve yet to read, I really want to start giving back whatever little I can to Stewart and the uber articulate WLF ‘crew’, so I’m in, however difficult that’s going to make it for me. What a martyr to the cause eh? :)

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
