Things have gotten so busy for me around here lately that I’ve kind of ignored a fundamental and important part of lit blogging – communicating with other bloggers. Sure I always respond when a fellow blogger drops by RobAroundBooks and leaves a comment or two, and I try to be as active as I can be on Twitter. But lately I’ve not done as I used to, and gone out into the bookish blogosphere and participated actively. That not only makes me feel ashamed, it makes me mad at missing out on some amazing bookish content.
So why am I bringing this up now? Well mainly because I’ve been humbled. A few days ago I received word that I’d been nominated in two categories for this year’s Book Blogger Appreciation Week Awards – Most Eclectic Taste and Best Series or Feature (for my Bookshelf of the Week feature). Completely unexpected, I’m touched, I’m honoured, and I’m not a little embarrassed. Heaven only knows who put my name forward for these awards but I can’t thank them enough for your thoughtfulness and generosity, especially when my lack of community involvement must make me look quite arrogant (I can assure you I’m not really).
Public voting on the shortlist for the Book Blogger Appreciation Week Awards begins in a week’s time. I don’t expect to get very far in this but to be honest with you it really doesn’t matter. To have even made the nominations in the first place is reward enough for me.

So if I wasn’t already embarrassed enough with the BBAW nominations, Mish over at the Stage and Canvas blog has bestowed upon me the prestigious, yet oddly named, Zombie Chicken Award. Wow, thanks Mish!
An award worth winning for its beautiful logo alone, the Zombie Chicken Award is given by fellow bloggers in recognition of their hard work and effort. Here’s the official award blurb (which I’m sure most of you would have seen already):
The blogger who receives this award believes in the Tao of the zombie chicken – excellence, grace and persistence in all situations, even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. These amazing bloggers regularly produce content so remarkable that their readers would brave a raving pack of zombie chickens just to be able to read their inspiring words. As a recipient of this world-renowned award, you now have the task of passing it on to at least 5 other worthy bloggers. Do not risk the wrath of the zombie chickens by choosing unwisely or not choosing at all…
Despite an intense research I couldn’t find the creator of this wholly original award (anyone?) so I can’t credit him or her, but I can publicly applaud their creative genius. So thanks for creating a wonderful lit blog award Mr(s). Creator, whoever you are.
The task now according to the rules is to pass on the award to five other worthy bloggers, or feel the wrath of the zombie chickens. To be honest it’s a difficult choice to make (and a lot of book bloggers already have the award), so I’m going to sit on this decision for a while before listing my five. Yeah I know the zombie chickens may come-a-peckin. But that’s a risk I’m going to have to take
. Thanks again Mish!
Congratulations Rob! I did vote for you, since, well, um, I love your blog!
My favorite of your series/feature is the Daily Bookshot. So keep shooting!
Congrats, Rob! Both your nominations are well-deserved. Keep up the good work!

@Mee – What can I say? You are truly an angel! I’m glad you like the Daily Bookshot feature, even though it’s transformed into a Sometimes Daily Bookshot
@Memory – As always thank you for your kind words and unwavering support. I visited your blog earlier today and what a transformation. Love the greeney, gothicey, supernatural theme.
Warmest
Rob
