Daily Bookshot: Tolstoy to Treasure

Joy and jubilation at RobAroundBooks today as my eagerly anticipated 2 volume boxed-set of Leo Tolstoy’s Collected Shorter Fiction from Everyman’s Library arrived. Polythene wrapped and untouched by human hands, the smell alone when I took the wrapping off was simply divine.
A quick flick through and I know that this is a Tolstoy set that will be treasured for life
(and here’s hoping there’s room for them in my coffin too
).
Note: Strangely I can’t locate this boxset (ISBN: 978-1857152432) on the Everyman website. Listed are the volumes (Volume I, Volume II) as individual entities, without dust jackets, but with an exquisite cover graphic.

Ooh, Everyman editions! I do love my Everymans. (Everymen?)
I find it funny that they call it his “shorter” fiction.

An ordinary edition of Tolstoy is usually enough to satisfy me – elegant hardcover editions of the short works? Such an intriguing notion… Very nice, though I’d personally probably rather the covers have some equally attractive pictures. But perhaps the simplicity attracts…?

Your right, for me it’s the simplicity of the Everyman’s that is its biggest draw – elegant simplicity at its finest.
