08:00 – The march through Ox-Tales: Fire (Profile Books) continues and I’m enjoying it thoroughly. This morning was the turn of the rather short, but very good The King Who Never Spoke by John Le Carre. As its title would suggest this story is all about a royal head who never speaks, and the consequences that this may lead to. Very entertaining.
22:00 - When in between novels I tend to take a day or so off, mainly so I can ruminate over what I’ve just finished reading. Today was one of these such days, but I did make a start on Yann Martell’s Life of Pi, the title chosen for Canongate’s worldwide readalong which began yesterday, and lasts throughout the month of August. I only read as much as Martell’s endearing and rather romantic introduction plus a couple of the short chapters, but so far I’m impressed. Martell has a warm way of engaging with the reader, and I’m looking forward to reading my way through this one.
Tomorrow I begin a rare read for me – a thriller, Triple Cross by Mark T Sullivan (Macmillian). I’m going to be having a UK-only giveaway on this one so keep your eyes peeled.
