Bookshelf of the Week: Norwegian book shop

Norwegian book shop. Picture credit - kJ

This week’s featured Bookshelf of the Week comes courtesy of Norwegian photographer KJ. It’s a shot taken of the inside of a book shop she visited, while on a hiking weekend to Fjærland, Western Norway.

I think it’s a beautiful shot – so inviting. And while it’s perhaps not clearly evident in this small version of Kj’s shot (I suggest you go and take a look at the largest version), the view out of that window is across a crystal clear lake, which even from here looks absolutely breathtaking. What a soul-nurturing place in which to browse and read books

EDIT: KJ. was kind enough to drop by and fill in a bit more detail about this shot. She’s posted in the comments below but I thought it should have pride of place in the main post. Here’s what KJ. had to say:

Just to add some info: It’s taken in one of the 10-ish second hand book shops in the Norwegian Book Town in Fjærland. They also have a large selection of books in English – just in case any of you happen to be in the neighbourhood some day

Thanks for a wonderful shot KJ.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)

Comments

  1. That looks like the kind of place I could happily spend hours browsing in! (Especially if I could, you know, actually read Norwegian!)

  2. Merely a minor detail Darren, merely a minor detail :)

  3. I’m glad you could use my photo! Just to add some info: It’s taken in one of the 10-ish second hand book shops in the Norwegian Book Town in Fjærland. They also have a large selection of books in English – just in case any of you happen to be in the neighbourhood some day :-)

  4. KJ. Thank you so much for stopping by and adding a bit more background information. I was going to contact you beforehand to fill in a few details for me but it all happened so quickly. I’m going to edit this extra info into the main post.
Thanks again and if I’m ever in Norway (a good chance because I want to visit a few Hamsun sites), I’ll be sure to make a trip to Fjærland too.
    Thanks again
    Warmest
    Rob

  5. This picture is so inspiring. I want to frame it and put it by my reading chair. Or maybe on my desk at work.

  6. Isn’t it something else Jessica? And what’s to stop you framing it and putting it next to your reading chair? I’m sure KJ would be delighted if you did.
    Warmest
    Rob
