The highlight of the weekend for me was definitely finding a copy of city-lit Berlin in my Parcel Safe. Published on November 5th to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, city-lit Berlin is the latest in the unique series of city guides to be published by Oxygen Books.
Featuring a varied and eclectic mix of literary extracts on Berlin and its history, from over 60 writers as wide-ranging as Hans Fallada and David Bowie, city-lit Berlin looks set to be just as well received as its predecessors – city-lit Paris and city-lit London (here they are featured in a recent Daily Bookshot). But what makes city-lit Berlin all the more interesting (aside from the fact it focuses on one of Europe’s finest and most historical cities), is that this is first time in its history, that a city-lit publication has been co-edited, with the established Heather Reyes being joined on this occassion by Katy Derbyshire, whose qualifaction as a skilled interpetator has brought a whole host of untranslated material to the table.
Since I announced its publication date back in July city-lit Berlin is a title that I’ve been eagerly waiting to get my sweaty mitts on. Now that I have I can’t wait to dive into it. So expect RobAroundBooks to be buzzing with Berlin-flavoured excitement over the next few weeks.
