Hamsun's tenth best is better than most writers first. I may also have dropped it a notch or two just for being more talked about than the others :) That said, Shallow soil is the one I have to re-read every year or two... I just finished Mysteries and have already read Hunger. I too love to read books and am especially interested in existentialists and beat writers. I learned of Hamsun through reading Charles Bukowski. Hamun's characters are so neurotic but also so insightful. Nagel in Mysteries definitely had a mood disorder thing going on. It amazes me how relevant the issues of Hamsun time are to ours. I will use your list to try and track down more of his books as my library only has three of his books. Thanks for the help!
