LOL...I love your style, dropping a book in your order because it's the one most spoken about by others :). I do the same thing, as soon as it becomes popular I stick my nose up at it :)
Warmest

Well, seven might seem low for Hunger, but that is relative to the greatness of his novels. Hamsun's tenth best is better than most writers first. I may also have dropped it a notch or two just for being more talked about than the others :) That said, Shallow soil is the one I have to re-read every year or two...

Thanks for dropping by and leaving me this fascinating list of your favourite Hamsun novels in order of preference. You know, I'm fascinated because you rate Hunger so lowly in comparison to the other six. Right now I have it right at the top. That said, I've yet to read as many as you have so perhaps my opinion will change. One thing's for sure - I'mm now now going to be reading Shallow Soil sooner rather than later :)

Do drop by again soon so we can compare notes.
Warmest regards
Rob

I have read all of Hamsun's novels that have been translated into English. I think I would rank the top seven as follows:

1. Shallow Soil
2. Pan
3. Mysteries
4. Victoria
5. The Vagabonds
6. Growth of the Soil
7. Hunger

Absolutely my pleasure Joy, and what a thrill it is to find someone as passionate as me about Knut Hamsun. Good luck in your search. Come back and tell me how you are getting on.
Warmest regards

I am so excited to find your site. I just finished Mysteries and have already read Hunger. I too love to read books and am especially interested in existentialists and beat writers. I learned of Hamsun through reading Charles Bukowski. Hamun's characters are so neurotic but also so insightful. Nagel in Mysteries definitely had a mood disorder thing going on. It amazes me how relevant the issues of Hamsun time are to ours.

I will use your list to try and track down more of his books as my library only has three of his books. Thanks for the help!

I know it's easier said than done, but you really need to read Hamsun Laza. I know you'd love him.
Warmest

Interesting idea. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I've never heard of him before, so I'm looking forward to your experiences. :)

@Rob - After reading Hunger I'm surprised you haven't read more. As for my thoughts on the others - watch this space :)

@Gautami - I'm glad to have brought someone new to your attention. Knowing your reading tastes quite well, I'd say you would love Knut Hamsun.
Warmest
