In creating the New Testament, many gospel writers works were dismissed because their story didn't fit the philosophy of the time. I have to say, I agree with Pullman that modern-day Christianity has a lot more to do with Paul than it does with Jesus. It'll be interesting to see where he takes it... but it does kind of feel like he's poking the Church with a pointy stick, just because he knows they'll respond. If the same book were published by some no-name author, I doubt there'd be nearly as much furor. Oh, this sounds interesting!
