Daily Bookshot: Sony WalkReader

Sony WalkReader, originally uploaded by Robert Burdock.

Now that Darren has been kind enough to mention RobAroundBooks on Bart’s Bookshelf, and list the Daily Bookshot‘ as one of the better features on the blog (thanks buddy!), I thought I’d better get focused and get back to posting a book shot every day, as the title feature strongly suggests :o )

So today, as it happens, I had a non-believer drop me an email, saying that it was impossible to walk and read. Can you believe such a thing? Tsk! So Susan Larter, just for you here’s me with Sony Reader in hand, Steinbeck on the right, walking along a long and laborious road to get to Steiney’s favourite ‘haunting ground’ – the woods.

I hope this is a bit of proof for you right here Susan :) . And yeah I know the reader isn’t in focus, but give me a break! I was juggling Reader, camera and dog at the same time, all whilst walking. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but I am a professional :) . Thank heavens no cats came along at that moment :) .

Oh and just a quick note on using the Sony Reader to ‘walk read’. I don’t usually use it when I’m walk reading, a physical book will always be a lot safer for any number of reasons. But when I do use the Sony (in this case I had to because I was reading a digital-only copy of Hanna Astrup Larsen’s biography on Knut Hamsun), it’s an absolute dream. No pages fluttering in the wind, no contorted way of having to hold it in order to keep it open, and no changing form. It’s the perfect ‘walk reading’ device. If only it were as ‘low risk’ as a traditional book is.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)

Question is, would Steinbeck have to or from the cat? :p

To, but in a friendly way. He thinks everyone and/or thing is there to meet him. He looks subdued and ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ in this pic but he so full of bounce and exuberance, it unbelievable.

I actually like the way I have to hold a book when I walk while reading. It makes it just a little more challenging and interesting, having to juggle flipping pages, concentration and a bulky book…

I don’t get you Biblibio. You like wrestling with a book while reading it? You’re completely barmy :)
