Here’s something a little bit different for today’s Daily Bookshot, and before you ask no I’ve not sold myself to advertising. You know that I would NEVER do such a thing.
Last week that company called if were kind enough to send me over a set of their new mini magnetic bookmarks (officially known as Mini-Marks), and I love them so much that I wanted to feature them. Why do I love them? Well they’re certainly small and unobtrusive which is a real plus, but the main reason I love them so much is that they stick firmly in a book without budging.
Last week, before I got a hold of the Mini-Marks I was out and about ‘walk reading’ in what was quite a windy day. A sudden gust and my bookmark (one of the freebies bookmarks that The Book Depository send along with their orders) flew off down the road. No big deal, but a bit annoying.
Take 2 and ‘walking reading’ another day – windy but not as much – and I was using one of these mini-bookmarks (the cupcake one of course
). Did I lose my bookmark at all? Nope! The magnetic bookmark held firm – hoorah!!
What I also find I like about these bookmarks with their magnetic feature is that I can stick them anywhere I want to in a book. I’m one of these people who hates to stop reading mid-chapter (are you one of these obsessives too?
), but sometimes I have to. When I do, I can put one of these bookmarks on the exact line I stopped reading. Not an earth-shattering feature I admit, but certainly useful for the guy (or gal) who can’t remember where on the page they stopped.
Another benefit – marking passages. I usually use a Post-it Note or an index tab to mark anything I want to go back to when I come to writing up a review. But over the weekend I used a couple of these mini-bookmarks as an alternative and I’m happy to say that they work beautifully. Probably not a complete replacement for ye olde faithful Post-it Note, but a nice alternative.
So that’s the Mini-Mark magnetic bookmarks, available in nine different ‘flavours’ (perhaps no surprise that the the ones pictured here are the ‘cookery’ ones
). Check out the product page for more info.
Oh and a final mention of the book being used as a prop for the Mini-Mark set of course. This is Tamasin’s Kitchen Bible by Tamasin Day-Lewis (Orion Books). A few weeks ago I asked for recommendations from fellow bookish tweeters on the best cookery title to buy for a friend. This title was one of the popular suggestions, and after buying it for said friend, and seeing how delighted he was with it, I decided to buy my own copy too. I’m glad I did. Highly recommended!
