Missing in Inaction: An apology from Rob

So this is the post where I eat humble pie and apologise profusely for my unannounced absence over the past few days. This is something I’ve never done before, and I never plan on doing again – if I can help it.

Fact is this time around I couldn’t help it. I hit an imaginary wall fast and hard last Thursday evening, coming down with a bout of something real nasty that resembled flu, mixed in with an incredible feeling of lethargy. Off to the Docs I went and long story short – flu (again – and thankfully again not swine-flavoured) and diagnosed (eventually) as being anemic. How exotic! :) . Tablets in hand, I was told to take it easy for a few days and rest up.

So resting is what I’ve been doing – and not even reading, at least not to any great degree. I also promised Mrs. Rob that I’d stay off the Internet. But to be honest with you, aside from a couple of sneaky Amazon visits, the last thing I’ve felt like doing is going online these past few days, at least in a blogging capacity (I know. That sounds bad doesn’t it?).

My biggest disappointment though (aside from keeping ‘radio silence’), was missing out on last night’s David Eagleman’s Sum event in Edinburgh. It’s bad enough losing £8.50 on the cost for the ticket, but I’m also left without a prime piece of reportage to bring you…sigh!

Anyway, I guess all I want to do now is to apologise massively to everyone – my friends, my visitors, and the publishers/authors who I made specific promises to. As I said at the start of the post, this is the first time I’ve taken an unannounced break from blogging, and I hope you can all find it in your bookish hearts to forgive me.

On a positive note, I know now what’s probably been causing my ‘burn out’ these past few weeks (and thought it as just a lack of stamina too :) ).

So anyway, humble pie eaten and apologies offered, I’ll ease myself back into it over the next couple of days with a complete return to normal service from Monday. Thanks to all who have sent notes and tweets of concern over the past few days.

Thanks for listening folks and happy reading!

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)

    Rob,

You know when the mainstream press dismisses bloggers as nothing but a bunch of amateurs? That means we can have time off when we need to. So take a break, and get well soon.

That said, by all means keep eating humble pie. I hear it’s full of iron.

  2. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been ill, but it is great to know that you know what it is and can hopefully improve quickly. Don’t worry about the lack of blogging – you can’t expect to keep it up when you’re ill.
