Hah, you're funny, Rob. I've been following one blog for over a year, hoping the originator will return. And a trio of others from an abandoned literary magazine that accepted a story from me and then disappeared off the face of the earth (probably a good thing, it was a lousy story. In fact, I later submitted it to a worst-story-in-the-world contest where it would've won... had anyone else submitted an entry). I am patient. Christmas is one of those seasons, like summer, where some people get very busy and some people have a lot of free time. You are the former, I am the latter, but we can still be friends. ;)

Oh dear Karen, and there's you saying you're delighted that someone is actually here. Sorry, been tied up with all of this Christmas nonsense. I'll get back to you on Bobcat. Been over a year since I read it so will have to refresh myself.
Speak soon (I promise)

Hi Rob – I have to admit I "carry around" a lot of books, since I never know what I'll be in the mood to read when I get stuck somewhere. Right now I have Aimee, the teeny tiny Steve Almond book (damn, I love these teeny tiny things, I hope this is a trend), the inagural print issue of Night Train from 2002 (a friend of mine found it in a Goodwill and got it for me), and a volume of prose, poetry, and art created by the local homeless shelter. There may be something else in there if I dig deep enough…

Anyway, on "Bobcat" – I loved the story. I wonder, though, if I'm supposed to completely understand it. As in, the woman who showed up – she's someone from John's past, or who at least knows something about John's past, but am I right that the text doesn't get very specific? A plain woman shows up, ask for her husband, and based on that, "…she formed the perfect answer to the question that was County Clanagh." She could be an old lover, perhaps with a child of his back at her hotel, or an old conspirator in the crime committed in the field in County Clanagh, perhaps burial of a stillborn, murdered, or aborted child (I'm obsessed with children because of the wife's pregnancy). But how would the wife know that just by looking at her and hearing her? So am I missing something, or am I free to make up whatever I wish about the woman? Is this another instance of not knowing if the bobcat is real or metaphorical? Yes, I know, "literature needs to be read as literature, not thudded through like one would a law brief." But sometimes I miss the obvious, and I like to know.

Now that I know you're actually "there" (so many blogs seem uninhabited) I'll look through and see if we have any more reads in common.

Hi Karen, pleasure to meet you. Apologies for the small delay!

I'm delighted that you love the first series, and even more delighted that you carry Aimee's book around with you in your rucksack (their unique shape and size greatly helps the 'carrying around' doesn't it?).

As for discussing Bobcat - fire away, I'm always happy to discuss anything when it comes to books.

Yep, next series is on it's way, and like you (I'm sure), I'm even more excited about this 2nd quartet (if that's possible). I look forward to discussing them with you.
Warmest regards
Rob

Hi! I've been obsessed with Madras Books since I discovered them last summer. I loved "The Third Elevator", I carry it around in my rucksack to read when I have to wait somewhere, bus, train, appointment. I loved "Bobcat" as well, I'd love to discuss it further with you because I would like to actually talk to someone about it. I had a lot of trouble with "A Mere Pittance" for the reasons you mention, the format just didn't work for me, but I'm going to keep trying. And the candy story I haven't dug into yet. But I love the non-profit benefactors of each purchase, and I'm looking forward to reading the next four - Sumanth just released Series #2!

Thank you for your kind words Tarie. Both are worthy of reading, and you'd probably get more out of them than I did (because I think they are slightly more pitched towards the female reader)
Warmest
