Bookshelf of the Week: Pete’s Delicious Discovery

Now while you can normally thank me and my Web crawling efforts for the finds featured on Bookshelf the Week, this week I have to give all the discovery credit to my good Twitter friend, Peter Weller. “This might interest you,” tweeted Pete in a message one day. Interest me Pete?!? This is probably as orgasmic as bookshelves can get. I mean dual-level with a character-oozing spiral staircase leading up to the upper level? It’s immoral just how sexy this bookish ensemble is.
OK, so there is a bit of a health and safety issue with the almost complete absence of a railing on the upper level, but with such a sublime vista – augmented beautifully by all of the framed portraits (are they of writers, anybody?) – I think we can ignore personal safety for once
.
I’m also loving the huge semi-circular window to the left of the shot (plenty of natural reading light), and the leather reading chair ensconced in the little nook under the stairs. Overall, a real reader’s haven I’d say. What do you think guys?
Massive thanks to Pete for drawing my attention to this beautiful shot, and to Jasmine for posting the shot on Tumblr in the first place.
Incidentally, if you have a favourite bookshelf shot that you want to see featured on Bookshelf of the Week ( or even better a shot of your own bookshelves), then please feel free to drop me an email. I’d love to hear from you.

There does appear to be a gate at the top of the stairs to keep kiddos off. Although, I’d probably put it at the bottom. But yes, this is a delicious set up all around for sure. Always jealous of these.

Well spotted Lauren, I didn’t notice the baby gate before.

My dream is a dual-level library. I’m so jealous!

You and me both Kristen! Although the real reason I want one, is so I can get one of those nifty slide-along ladders to go with it
Thank you for your comments

I just really like that the staircase is all twisted and spiraled. It really doesn’t get cooler than that.

Indeed Bibliobio, and I think the spiral staircase is just the icing on top of a really tasty cake.

I’m glad you agree (but then again what bibliophile wouldn’t?

The book shef is lovely, the stair case makes it even better. It sort of reminds me of the one from Beauty and the Beast only on a smaller scale (which I totally want by the way). Multi level library, can a book geek want anything more?

Absolutely not Jules, but reading between the lines I imagine you not being completely happy until you get a full-size Beauty and the Beast staircase
.
Oh, and if you’re looking for a beast to go with that future staircase, then I perfectly fit the bill

I am hopelessly in love with those shelves. If I had a room like that I don’t think i’d ever leave.

Oh I think I may have a good idea Vivek. What hot-blooded bibliophile wouldn’t be envious of this bookish set up?

Ha..I knew I’d written that wrong Vivek and tat you’d probably misinterpret it. What I meant was I have a good idea of how much you envy these bookshelves
. I wish that I did have a good idea for how to replicate them.

Rob
P.S. And do send me your pics. I’d love to see them
