Book News: Joso’s ‘Soothing Music’ makes People’s Book Prize final

Soothing Music for Stray Cats by Jayne Joso If you’ve read my recent review of Soothing Music for Stray Cats (Alcemi) then you would know what a big fan I am of both the novel and its author, Jayne Joso. Well, you can imagine my delight when a little birdie told me that Soothing has topped the fiction category for the December ‘heat’ of the People’s Book Prize, and made it through as one of the finalists.

The annual People’s Book Prize Awards themselves don’t take place until July, so there’s a bit of time to wait until we find out whether Jayne has triumphed overall with her novel, but for now, just getting there in the first place is a real cause for celebration. So if you’re reading this Jayne – way to go girl! :)

About the People’s Book Prize
The brainchild of Tatiana Wilson, Managing Director of Delancey Press, The People’s Book Prize was created not only to give independent publishers and new authors an opportunity for increased exposure, but to also give readers at large something to get involved in.

Every month registered independent UK publishers (here’s a list of them HERE) are invited to submit one title in each of three categories – fiction, non-fiction and children’s books – and these are then put up for the public vote. All monthly winners then go through to the final, where the public vote once more for the overall winner.

To find out more, and to register yourself for public voting, head on over to The People’s Book Prize website.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
