Bookshelf of the Week: Nacho Polo’s vision in white

Nacho Polo's vision in white

The thing about professional interior designers is that they’re usually a bit flash and flamboyant with their room designs aren’t they? Nothing wrong with that of course, but imagine my surprise when I stumbled across one lately, from Florida designer Nacho Polo, where the interior design was most definitely flash and flamboyant while at the same time massively restrained. Sounds like an extreme and almost impossible juxtaposition doesn’t it, yet the star image for this week’s Bookshelf of the Week – a shot of one of the rooms of a Madrid home designed by Nacho – shows such a design concept in all of its extravagant, yet understated glory.

I love this shot I really do. I know the sparsity and whiteness of the surroundings don’t necessarily make it look like a warming and welcoming place to read books (with the exception of that gorgeous reading chair; either of them), I love how such a blank ‘canvas’ makes the books pop out even more. In effect the books become a main feature of the room, and for any bibliophile that’s got to be a real winner. What do you think guys and gals?

My thanks to Nacho for being such a wonderful inspiration (I urge you fellow readers to drop by his website for even more interior inspiration), and credit to the awesome ‘desire to inspire’ website where I first stumbled across Nacho’s interior creations.

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
