I got a little bit excited when I spotted a tweet from Rebecca aka @bookladysblog earlier today, which points to a ‘poster’ which makes a play on the ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ slogan. Seeing those words Keep Calm and Read a Book, instantly sent my mind back to May when I featured Barter Books as my Bookshelf of the Week. The Manley couple who run Barter Books you may remember, are the ones who are credited for the rediscovery of the now ubiquitous war-era poster.
When I discovered that ‘Keep Calm’ nugget of trivia, I remember having the same ‘replacing ‘Carry On’ with ‘Read a Book’ epiphany as the creator of Rebecca’s poster did (I’m not sure who the creator actually is, as the trail seems to wind back indefinitely. Anyone?), and at the time I set myself off on a tinker around in Photoshop. What you see above was the result (cheesy I know, but wholly relevant to the bibliophile).
Anyway, thanks to Rebecca for the memory jog, and if anyone knows of any other examples of the ‘Keep Calm’ slogan being reworked to fit a bibliophile theme, then I’d love to hear about them.

I love this poster
Definitely better than the original in my opinion!
says:
Amy, you say the most wonderful things. I was beginning to think it was an hideous creation because no one has commented. So you’ve just cheered me up by doing so.

Thanks so much for this, Rob. This December is turning out to be one of the most horrible months of my entire life. So I cherish this poster of yours a great deal. Thanks again.

Kinna, I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve been having such a bad month
. It makes my attempts at trying to cheer everyone up look rather pathetic. I hope everything turns around real soon and that things start getting better for you.
Take care
