‘Self Raising’ by Tania Hershman

Title: ‘Self Raising’ by Tania Hershman
Collection/Anthology?: The White Road and Other Stories (Salt Publishing)
Date Read: 26th February 2011
Briefly: A woman muses on a life which has certainly had its ups, but also more than its fair share of downs.
Afterthoughts: Tania’s main objective with this collection is to tell stories which have an element of the scientific about them. She bang on target with this one, and in a wholly creative way. Petri dish-themed cake, anyone? And before you think that this tale is all about sunshine and lollipops, I’m afraid it’s not. It’s mainly about sorrow and missed opportunity, but on the bright side there is cake, and plenty of it :) . A well crafted and wholly original story.

Rating: ★★★½☆

About Rob

Rob, a self-confessed bibliophile, is without any hope of rehabilitation. He gets unnaturally excited over anything book-shaped, and if book sniffing were a crime then he would have been locked up years ago (which wouldn't bother him in the slightest provided his cell was lined with books)
